Young Lizzie Van Ankum boarded the train in Calgary, not knowing that her well devised plans were about to blow awaylike seeds in the wind. She would travel home, as the telegram demanded, then quickly return to nurses training in the city. But what she thought would be a brief visit home, changed everything. How could she ever live up to the promise she made Mother? If only she hadn’t promised. But now she’s strapped to the farm. Why, if God is a loving God, would He plant a desire in her heart, only to pluck it from her? And what about that handsome Daniel Winslow? Would she ever see him again? Or does she need to look closer to home? Doris Fleming was born in Alberta…western Canada’s beautiful wild rose province. She grew up milking cows, pitching hay, slopping pigs and feeding threshing crews, farm chores familiar to many a farmers’ daughter. Everything from gathering eggs to mucking manure has provided inspiration for this novel set in the 1920’s. Doris and her husband, Art, met in Bible College in Didsbury, Alberta and have pastored rural churches in Alberta, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. They presently reside in Idaho and have four children and nine grandchildren.

I originally purchased this book because Mrs. Fleming is a friend of mine. I soon fell in love with all the characters of this story. Every time I had to set it down, I could hardly wait to get back to the book and learn more about these very real people and the paths their lives were taking. I loved how Mrs. Fleming developed each character. I came to care for every one of them and could vividly picture them in my head. I cannot wait to see where the story goes from here. Surely it isn't over yet!!!Product details

Seeds In The Wind Doris Fleming 9781469952505 Books Reviews
I just finished this book and I absolutely love it! I will definitely recommend this book to all my friends and family!

I really enjoyed this book. Fleming's writing was very "now" without taking away from the historical aspect of the book. Seeds in the Wind has a strong message of hope and faith without being stuffy or stilted. The characters seem like real people that I would actually like to know! The warm sense of humor and clean writing style really is very refreshing. I can't wait to read more from this author.
Lizzie Van Ankum has barely arrived in Calgary to begin her long awaited nurses training when she gets a telegram from the family doctor summoning her back to the home farm. Her mother has been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer, Her father is in complete denial, too depressed to function. Two older brothers take charge of the dairy business, but there is no one to take care of the house, the cooking, the cleaning, and the three younger children, nor to nurse her dying mother.
Overwhelmed by her family's needs, angry that she is asked to give up her career dream, wondering if God even cares, she struggles to answer the children's questions, maintain discipline, get her father back on his feet after the funeral, and keep her twelve-year-old brother from disappearing at night.
It is a long summer of frustration and fatigue before she begins to sense that God may have a plan after all.
mistakenly rated this review as 3 stars. Although there was no opportunity given me to rate the number of stars, I would have given it 5. That's what excellent means. Keith Dahlberg
I loved reading Seeds in the Wind. Lizzie has struggles and dreams we can all relate to. I wanted to keep reading and was very unhappy to see that the cover said " Journey of Hope Book One" but I couldn't order book two yet.
Doris Fleming is an excellent author and I want to read more!
Here is a story about the life of a young woman in the Alberta Prairies. She and her family deal with the issues of grief and loss when the unexpected happens! Doris has for me accurately shown what that journey feels like. The end is surprising and very hope filled! A lovely story!
