The Gift of Stress How to Act on the Urgent Message That Trying to Save Your Life Zohar Adner 9780982150818 Books
Adner clearly wants you to be happy, and he gives you an opportunity to explore yourself and take a positive step on almost every page of this well-written workbook. By 'well-written' I mean that it's a smooth read with interesting facts about stress mixed with Adner's practical perspective and warm, perky encouragement. His main point is to understand the root of your stress and release it forever, which can sound amazing even as a concept in times of big stress. What I like here is that Adner's 7 R's method feels straightforward and flexible at the same time. And because each step feels approachable in its own right, I've been able to focus and relax while I am exploring my stress. I also like that he encourages jumping into the 7 R's at the point that speaks to you at the time. Today, for example, I used his suggestion to ask positive questions to short-circuit mental spin-outs. Earlier, I looked at ideas of entitlement and attachment and had an 'aha' moment. Another day, I got inspired to look at the gap between what I have and what I want, and to see how much choice I actually have therein. This book feels to offer a technique or insight for every part of the stress cycle. One plus for me was seeing Adner speak about his work after I bought the book, and when asked if he uses the 7 R's to reduce his own stress, he answered a quick and sincere yes, which inspired me to look at this book like a friend. I notice that he also offers additional worksheets on his website in case you used a pen!Product details

The Gift of Stress How to Act on the Urgent Message That Trying to Save Your Life Zohar Adner 9780982150818 Books Reviews
The thing about stress is how overwhelming it can be, and I always end up feeling like I have to address everything all at once to get through it. But Adner's book really made me stop and break things down a little bit, figure out a few simple things to start chipping away at the insanity in my life. I know he wrote the book so it could be pieced apart and read in chunks, but I sat down and read it all the way through in one sitting. And then went back and start picking up the exercises. I'm finding it very useful!
Mr. Adner shows a true in-depth understanding of the human psyche with this book.
Stress is something that everyone has, and it's a matter of finding how to live with it effectively, or something, I think.
Work smarter, not harder.
As a commuter with a high-stress job, I had to pick up this title out of sheer incredjulity. How in the world could stress - like meeting deadlines, impressing my boss, pleasing my family - be a positive energy?
Adner's book helped me calm down, change perspective, and think Why do I assign the values I do to actions that cause me worry? How can I take myself out of the habit of stress and into a peaceful state of productivity?
I followed the workbook exercises, and, to my relief and delight, I have seen positive change that has allowed me to quit thinking of many of my tasks as "musts" and instead allowed me to think of them as moments. Mostly FUN moments....
Let me just say that "self-help" books usually elicit an eye roll reaction from me. I feel like I have it together for the most part and have no need for such assistance.
I thought the title was intriguing so I gave it a shot. Sometimes You hear something put just the right way and it rings true. I found this book to be very useful.
I was suprised! My mind accepted these ideas easily. One section in particular hit home. I won't spoil it but it was a section on "Expectations". I found myself upset one day
and My mind recalled some words of wisdom the author had outlined. As a result I was better able to handle myself and my stress never rose to to the level it was headed for. If that was all I got out of that book it was well worth the money... but I got more.
Kudos to the author.
I am a planner and a control freak, so needless to say I have trouble dealing with situations that don't go according to plan. Along with my intense work schedule this life style has left me very very stressed. I knew I needed to make a change, so I researched and found this book, and I have to say it has had an incredible effect on my stress levels. This book has taught me how to release my stress, and the exercises and techniques were easy to adopt. I especially like 'transforming the nag or critic', which has helped me to deal with other peoples judgments. This is an empowering book, and I must recommend it for anyone who has to deal with the everyday stresses life throws your way.
This book gets to the heart of what stress is all about - how we react when things don't go our way. It offers a nice balance of insight and exercises for dealing with situations that don't meet our ideal - or more appropriately, our responses to those situations. Working with Adner's "Seven Rs of Stress Release", anyone can learn some basic techniques for diffusing stress, and find more contentment in their life by seeing the bright side of every situation.
The name of the book, The Gift of Stress, surprised me. I've never thought that stress could be a present; until now I saw it only as a burden and something you cannot get rid of - in this book I found a new way to look at stress. Zohar Adner changed my perspective, he enabled me to choose between viewing stress as a problem and stress as a present. In this book I got an explanation of how to strengthen the choice of seeing stress as an alarm that wakes me to make a change that will lead me to a better quality of life.
The model of the Seven Rs that Adner offers led me step by step towards the goal of choosing stress as a gift. The model is supported by questions and many examples that helped me explore and arrive at the roots of my stress that is created in different situations in my life such as incidents with my husband, stress and anger that come up while I'm driving, and dealing with the pressures at work.
Because the book is written in a very clear way it was easy for me to understand and connect with the ideas and the method. When I allow the model to sink in I feel a great relief. I recommend to anybody that wants to make a change in his or her life to embrace the model that Adner offers.
